NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, an institution of national eminence in the field of legal education and research, is a residential University established in 1998 under the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Act (Andhra Pradesh Act 34 of 1998) of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. The University provides an opportunity to explore limitless options in legal profession and is setting new standards in legal education. The University has as its primary mission to create a generation of able, competent and humane lawyers who will not only enter the Bar and Bench but will also be equipped to address effectively the imperatives of the new millennium and to engage in community services. The University Grants Commission has recognised NALSAR under sections 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The University Campus – Justice City – is located in a 50 acre site abutting the Shameerpet Lake about 28 kms away from the city. The Campus lies on an expansive, serene and open site on which the several buildings have come up. The NALSAR Architecture is a creative effort yet practical statement of Campus design. The greenery on the Campus developed and maintained during the last few years not only helps the Campus community unwind, but it also attracts birds to colonise. Ecological balance is ensured on the Campus by a large artificial pond which collects rain water. The campus design interweaves the tropes of legal authority and aesthetics through a horizontal and vertical interplay of stern gray, suave white and homely burnt sienna.

The main buildings on the Campus include Administrative Block, Academic Block, Library, Computer Centre, M.K. Nambyar SAARC LAW Centre (which houses a State-of-the-Art Moot Court Hall and a Lecture Hall with Video Conferencing facilities). Two buildings house the N.C. Banerjee Centre for Intellectual Property Law Studies and Dr. S.P. Chatterjee Centre for Environmental Law Studies. There also exists four blocks of hostels for boys and another four blocks of hostels for girls with a large common dining hall, three Blocks of faculty quarters comprising 12 Units, three Blocks of quarters for support staff comprising 12 Units, Vice-Chancellor's residence and a Guest House. The construction of the Teachers Convention Centre (TCC) which has 22 air-conditioned rooms and 3 suites got over in January 2007 and the construction of the Auditorium is in progress. Apart from the 6 blocks of hostels presently available, the University is constructing 2 more blocks of hostels for students. A stadium is in place for sports, games and recreational activities besides facility for indoor games in all the hostel blocks.
